Snail Bob 5, also called Snail Bob: Love Story, continues the adventures of the adorable Bob in the popular logic-puzzle platformer series. Cupid has hit Bob with his love arrow! As a result, Bob decides to pursue a singer's love. The player must help Bob survive 25 levels of danger on his journey through the forest to the location of her next concert.
As with the previous games, the player uses simple and complex machines to help Bob bypass dangerous obstacles, traps and enemies, including red spikes, hunters and snail-eating plants. To reposition bridges, platforms, pulley systems, walls and other structures, the player must press buttons, adjust levers, make Bob float in a bubble, and direct other characters to perform actions.
Bob's movement is automatic and most similar to a runner from an infinite or dash racing game. That said, the player can direct Bob to start and stop. When he stops, he disappears into his shell. This action helps the player buy time to study a scene and come up with solutions. The game also provides Bob with a little ant friend who wants to help out.
Snail Bob 5 offers a hidden-object element as well. Instead of winning stars, the player must collect three camouflaged ones hidden behind or inside other objects in each scene. If they want to play minigames, they must find every star.
The game also offers new options for controlling Bob. The player can use onscreen buttons at the upper-right corner or their device controls to make him turn around or speed up.
