Shape Matcher is a timed match-3 game that features colorful geometric shapes. The player's goal is to create lines of three or more matching shapes across 25 levels. Unlike many similar match-3 games, the main objective is not to remove a specific number of shapes. Instead, the player creates the lines to remove black backgrounds underneath the shapes. Their secondary goal is to also play fast enough to win three gold stars.
The player must create the lines on the black backgrounds to remove the black from the squares on the grid-style board. Every level features a board designed with different borders. Sometimes, the player can only accomplish this task if they create or receive a black or red bomb. A black bomb takes out a small number of mixed shapes. A red, spiked one takes out a much larger number of shapes.
Shape Matcher displays a timer as a blue horizontal bar divided into sections and collectible stars at the top-center of the screen. As time passes, the blue color disappears, and the player loses opportunities to collect stars. If the bar depletes entirely, the player loses and must try again.
It's important to note that the game features an element designed to distract the player. It bounces and flips the shapes on each square of the grid. The player also doesn't have to wait for bombs to appear from above. If they combine five or more shapes, they can create their own bombs to use on the grid.
