Flipper Dunk 3D is a three-dimensional sports game that combines basketball and pinball. The playfield is shaped like a pinball machine and features a dark blue background, a wooden framework and a single large flipper. A basketball hoop hangs on the left side above the flipper. The player's goal is to display their basketball-dunking and pinball-flipping skills by dunking a ball into the basket on each level.
The shot is an extremely difficult one. The player must have patience and excellent hand-eye coordination to make it. If the ball falls below the flipper, they must start over. Thankfully, the game doesn't penalize them in any way. They simply don't move on to the next level until they complete the shot.
When they perform correctly, a crowd cheers, stars appear, confetti drops down the screen, and the hoop and net move to a new position. The player receives blue gemstones. They're also allowed to multiply their winnings by watching an advertisement. They can use the gems to unlock random, unique ball and flipper skins.
Flipper Dunk 3D's mechanics might frustrate some players. For example, the ball can become stuck between the right end of the flipper and the wooden frame. The player must move the flipper rapidly up and down to dislodge the ball and help it roll toward the left end. This version of Flipper Dunk also doesn't allow keyboard play. As a result, the player must accurately click or tap the screen to make the flipper work correctly.
