Fancy Blast is a match-3 game that features a theme based on popular fairytales. The player completes tasks for heroes and heroines from various popular fairytales by performing matches of three or more similar or identical items on game boards. They play across levels made accessible via buttons on a knitted scarf pathway that winds through fairytale lands. They start by helping Little Red Riding Hood, for example, build a house for her grandmother.
The match-3 play differs slightly from other games because it permits the player to match by color in addition to item type. Typically, in similar games, the player must match items that look exactly the same. Common items on the boards for the Red Riding Hood portion of the game, for example, are buttons related to sewing, including circular and square ones, and buttons shaped like birds, umbrellas and briefcases. That said, if the player must collect an object from the board, such as a watering can, they can complete a group of three or more items based on color. For example, they might match two blue round buttons and a blue watering can button.
Fancy Blast offers boosters as well. The player purchases or creates a wide range of useful tools that remove items from a board without a match-3 arrangement. For example, they can collect flowers and break ice with different types of bombs and rockets and rainbow-colored balls of yarn.
When the player wins, they receive currency. In at least the first story, they receive gold bar buttons. They also receive a points score and up to three stars.
