Blumgi Ball is a sports game that combines basketball with platformer mechanics. The player's main goal is to direct their avatar to dunk basketballs into hoops positioned among obstacles in different levels. Their secondary goal is to unlock new animal and fantasy characters from 18 options.
The player starts the game with a black cat wearing a red headband. Other characters include a frog, a bear, a gnome, a dragon, an explosive bomb, a peanut, a pear and a worm.
Although the gameplay looks like traditional basketball, it's far more complex. The player doesn't simply make the avatar run and jump to make a basket. Instead, they slingshot the ball into the air, direct the character to teleport to the ball, and then continue slingshotting until they reach the basket. Obstacles include tunnels, logs, palm trees, crabs and ducks.
Blumgi Ball doesn't require perfect shots. As long as the player directs the ball and avatar in the right general direction, the game auto-plays the character making a slam dunk. It also offers multiple ways to unlock the treasure chests that contain new characters. The player wins a free new character at the end of some levels. They also receive one by merely watching an advertisement.
