Baseball Pro is a sports simulation game that focuses on baseball. It's similar to other sports games that focus on only one aspect of play, such as soccer games that only deal with penalty kicking.
The player, via an onscreen avatar in the batter position, must hit the baseball thrown to them by the other team's pitcher. They receive points any time they hit the ball. Their primary objective is to earn the highest number of points. If they hit a home run, they earn the most points per swing of the bat. They can track their points with a digital display at the top-right corner.
The game presents a classic field with the batter at home plate and the pitcher on the mound. The mowed turf has a two-tone checkerboard pattern. The player receives 10 chances to earn points. They can track the number of balls remaining below the digital point display.
When the player hits the ball, Baseball Pro zooms out to show the entire field and the stadium seating filled with crowds. It shows the direction of the ball and where it lands on the field. The ball can land on top of the crowds or even out of the park entirely. The game confirms the location by flashing a hazy white color over the spot.
When the pitcher runs out of balls, the game ends. As with a real baseball game, the player receives a strike if their avatar swings the bat without hitting the ball.
