Animalon: Epic Monster Battle is a turn-based battle-arena game similar to Digimon and Pok�mon. The player, as a boy or girl avatar, trains a variety of magical fantasy animals for battle while traveling through a diverse landscape across 20 levels. The character starts their journey to victory in battle on an island that features forests and hills, a town and a lighthouse. Their dream of creating the most powerful animal team takes them to high mountain peaks, frigid icy regions and an active volcano.
The game's mechanics are based partially on chance. During a battle, the player must select a category and then allow a slot machine to make the final decision about the next moment of action. The slot machine features three buttons. With the first button, the player selects their team of animals. With the second button, they select magical tools, attacks and defenses. Lastly, they can bombard their opponent's team with special attacks that rain down from the skies.
Animalon: Epic Monster Battle rewards the player with points, gold stars and glowing power that levels up the animals in their team, magical tools, attacks and defenses, and special attacks. Even if the player loses a battle, they still receive the power to level up the categories they used in their last battle.
