Mini Golf Buddies is a sports-simulation games that allows a player to hit balls on putt-putt courses with block-shaped, buddy-style, toy avatars. The game consists of 60 tricky courses that feature various shapes and obstacles. The player wins up to three stars per course along with coins that they collect on the courses and coins they win for reaching certain achievements.
The player starts out with a basic buddy, 50 coins and classic green checkerboard courses. They can upgrade their buddy's skin color immediately. They can upgrade to any of 43 profession and character options after they have 100 coins. Options include grandma, grandpa, football player, firefighter, doctor, clown, cheerleader, businessman, biker, beach babe, luchador, mountie, riot cop, policeman, racer, runner, sheriff, shopkeeper, tourist, trucker, waitress and various types of zombies.
Mini Golf Buddies offers two modes of gameplay (singleplayer Campaign and multiplayer Hotseat). The game shows the player the total strokes (par) and time a professional player would need to win a course. It then tracks their best time, best score, total strokes and total fails.
The player must position their buddy and take one or more direct or sidewall shots to make a hole that features a red flag on a wooden flagpole before time runs out. If they fail, they can retry for free.
