Golf Field is a sports game that focuses on mini or putt-putt golf. The player attempts to putt a ball into holes across 45 levels depicted as mini golf courses of various shapes and sizes bordered with white walls. Each green course features a hole with a red flag on a white flagpole.
The game gives the player three "lives," or turns, per course to make the ball roll to a hole. The player can roll the ball straight or bounce it off the walls. They direct the ball's actions via a targeting line with an orange tip made of white dots. An orange dashed circle appears on the screen when it's time for them to aim the line.
Golf Field features courses with odd shapes and a lot of corners that the player must angle the ball around. These courses often feature one or more obstacles or traps, including white spiked rails, red laser barriers and sections with arrows that can reverse the ball's roll. Some levels also feature barriers that the player can only remove if they roll the ball into oversized, yellow bouncy buttons.
If the player allows the ball to hit a trap, the ball bursts into pieces. If they fail to win a level, they can restart it without any penalty.
