Backflip Adventure is a sports game that focuses on gymnastics. The player, via a blank avatar wearing a red t-shirt and dark charcoal shorts, must backflip their way through dozens of levels across many unique outdoor environments to win coins and prove their skill.
The game features nine unique regions (The Gym, The Mountain, The City, The Funhouse, The Factory, The Ship, The Island, The Haunted House and Space) that the player can only unlock level by level. They can't unlock each level unless they successfully direct their avatar through backflips off a wide range of objects, including wooden boxes, rectangular platforms, building edges, the tops of white utility poles, motor vehicles, ship sails, rocks and boulders, tree limbs or the top of a spaceship.
Backflip Adventure awards coins to the player every time they meet a target score or special challenge. The player also wins coins with a free spin wheel. They use the money to pay to skip difficult levels or buy beanie-style hats and baseball caps for the avatar.
