Neighborhood Defense is a tower defense game. The player's mission is to protect rural town neighborhoods with towers against various types of enemy hordes that storm down the streets in waves in levels-style play. The player also attempts to collect three stars per level.
The player receives four types of towers (i.e., archer, bomber, sniper and magic). Each tower offers different strategic advantages. For example, the archer, sniper and magic towers inflict damage on ground and flying enemies. The bomber tower only inflicts damage on ground troops.
Different towers inflict different types of damage as well. After the player earns points, they level up each tower's abilities between battles. They can add higher percentages of damage to each hit, shockwaves that also inflict damage, or double the number of projectiles fired with each shot. They can also improve the accuracy, range, targeting and speed of attacks.
At the start of a battle, the player receives 1500 coins to install towers on orange square platforms marked with construction hammers. Each tower typically costs between 400 and 500 coins.
The player places towers based on different strategies. For example, it's best to place archers at the end of a street near a red shield icon to eliminate any stragglers missed by the earlier towers. Bomber towers are best at intersections where two towers can drop bombs within an overlapping radius.
Neighborhood Defense also features special chargeable weapons that the player drops on their enemies from above, such as lightning strikes and TNT explosive barrels. After a weapon charges, they target the enemy troops with an oval targeting tool (i.e., blue for lightning and orange for TNT).These weapons are critical because the number of enemies and waves per battle increases. The enemies also move faster.
