The 19th-century strategy game of Mahjong has received a modern twist with Mahjong FRVR. I found that this online experience added a lot of fun to this popular tile game, and found myself lost in the art of this simple game.

The gameplay is pretty straightforward, but this little game offers a lot of options. In the beginning, I could choose from a variety of game options including how many tiles to play with. Once I selected the tile count and game type I could then choose some more playing options by clicking on a double line in the upper right that brings up a submenu. This menu offers different icon options by clicking on an arrow and selecting whichever variety I like. I can also choose a background that I like and whether to have music playing or not, all from a simple and straightforward dashboard menu. Once I'm set, I just exit out and start playing Mahjong FRVR.
On the mainboard, as play starts I have some more options to choose from, one of which is extremely helpful in the gameplay. In the lower-left of the screen is a lightbulb that offers hints as to what move to make next. It's a great addition, especially when you're staring at a large group of tiles and trying to decipher what to do next. There is also a reshuffling option next to the light bulb that will sound a gong and reshuffle the tiles. On the mainboard view, there is also a timer and a window that keeps track of the points that you make during gameplay. It's a clean and simple layout that hearkens back to the true nature of playing Mahjong in person.
Mahjong FRVR is a very classic Mahjong game with plenty of options to keep almost any player satisfied. The tiles are reminiscent of regular play, including the Dots, Bamboo, and Chinese character icons that play just like the real thing. Mahjong FRVR is the perfect way to wile away the hours on a weekend afternoon.
