Wordscapes is a connect-style word puzzle game. Its name is a play on "words" and "landscapes." Across 16 chapters, it displays high-quality photographs of nature as backdrops to each word puzzle. Within each chapter are four of these images. The player completes four levels per image. The game also features a daily puzzle with a special separate image.
The player's goal is to create words from mixed letters displayed inside of a circle below empty round-cornered squares that represent the letters of words like a crossword puzzle. Some of these squares overlap so that two or more words are formed from some of the same letters.�
In the Levels mode, the circle and squares have a white frosted appearance, and the mixed letters have black font. When the player guesses a word correctly, the squares turn dark purple and the final letters turn white. In the Daily Puzzle mode, the circle and squares have a smoky appearance, and the completed spaces and words turn sky blue and white, respectively.
Wordscapes is a connect-style puzzle because the player can only create words by drawing a line from letter to letter inside the circle from the first to the last letter. If the player struggles to guess a word based on the letters and the number of squares, they can use a lightbulb hint tool to display one letter in its correct square or reshuffle the mixed letters in the circle with a twisted arrows shuffle tool. They pay for access to these options with coins they win at the end of each level and chapter.
