Word Solitaire is a card game with word puzzle themes. From level to level, the player rearranges a deck of cards into categories based on the words printed on each card.
The game deals some cards into face-down and face-up positions across four or more columns at the center of a green tabletop. It places the rest of the cards face-down in an upper-right draw pile. It limits the number of moves per level, as shown in the upper-left corner.
Each level has multiple category themes that the player divides into piles on foundation spaces marked with crowns above the columns. The player can only start piles with theme cards, which act like Aces in a standard Klondike Solitaire game. A theme card features a gold crown and outline and the total number of cards in that specific category.
Thankfully, the player can create partial category builds in the columns and expose theme cards. Some of these cards are also hidden in the draw pile. Once the player has a theme card, they slide it into place on a foundation space and then follow with any cards or partial builds that fit into the category.
On some levels, Word Solitaire limits the number of foundation spaces. It also doesn't allow the player to complete a pile on a theme card in a column. That said, it gives them five chances to undo their moves via a lower-center back arrow button. They can also flip face-down cards by sliding a partial build to a temporary free cell storage space that becomes exposed after they remove all cards from a column.
