Word Cook is a connect-style, educational word puzzle game. Across more than 2,300 levels, the player cooks multiple popular meals in different countries by forming words using round letter tiles displayed on the edges of dinner plates. They also collect instant camera photos of a cook visiting historic landmarks.
Although the meals represent local cultures, and some words relate to eating, the game rarely prompts the player to create words about food. Instead, the player learns about various dishes via onscreen images and labels. They use a line to connect the letters, which then appear as square tiles above the plate. If they create a valid word, the game places the tiles on empty crossword-style spaces.
When the player spells out extra words, they receive credit in a jar to the upper left of the plate. Over time, the jar fills with power and then rewards them with an extra lightbulb letter hint to the lower right of the plate. The game also provides a double arrows shuffle button in the lower-left area that reorders the tiles to help the player find new words. Empty spaces sometimes display one of these icons. After the player creates a word, they might receive an extra hint or shuffle.
Word Cook offers championship gameplay details via an upper-left corner button marked with "2 | 1 | 3" champion podiums. The player must have an account to see this information.
