Wonders of Egypt Mahjong is a tile-matching game that applies Chinese Mahjong to an ancient Egyptian theme. The player attempts to clear more than 180 layered patterns of tiles from playfields.
Each pattern mimics an object or scene (i.e., a pyramid, a fish, a spiral and an arena). The round-cornered tiles display common images associated with Ancient Egypt, such as an ankh, an asp, a riverboat, a camel, a canopic funerary jar, gods (i.e., Anubis, Bastet, Horus and Ra), hieroglyphics, an obelisk, a pyramid, rulers (i.e., Nefertiti and Tutankhamun), and a scarab. The player can only remove the tiles in uncovered matching pairs that have at least one left or right side open.
Wonders of Egypt Mahjong provides several helpful tools. The player can use a double-arrow shuffle button to rearrange the tiles to uncover tiles hidden beneath the top tiles. They can use a back arrow undo button to reverse a move. They can use a flashlight known as a torch to highlight all available pairs. Lastly, they can use a lightbulb hint tool to reveal one pair.
When the player removes an entire pattern of tiles from a playfield, they receive up to three gold stars. Their goal is to collect as many stars as possible to beat other online players and rank high on a leaderboard that they access using a trophy button.
