Winter Wonderland Mahjong is a tile-matching game in the online Chinese Mahjong subcategory. The player clears away patterns of layered tiles from winter-themed backdrops. Their goals are to earn standard and multiplier streak bonus points and unlock all levels.
The tiles feature common winter holiday and season icons, including bells, candy canes, candles, cupcakes, elves, gift boxes, gingerbread men, knitted clothing items, ice skates, mugs of hot cocoa, ornaments, penguins, polar bears, snow globes, stars, stuffed toy bears, trees, winter scenes and wreaths. The player can only remove these tiles in matching unblocked pairs. Unblocked tiles are white. Blocked ones are gray.
The game displays the points slightly to the left of an upper-center multiplier alert area. It shows the number of available pairs at any given time on the right. When the player performs a streak, a golden multiplier ring acts like a timer. They must select the next pair before the color disappears entirely.
Winter Wonderland Mahjong offers four buttons on the right side of the screen that can help the player make matches faster. In vertical order from top to bottom, the player can shuffle all tiles to unblock some blocked ones, undo mistakes, reveal all matching tiles with a flashing blue light, and reveal a single pair of available tiles. The player earns access to these tools by watching advertisements.
