Ultimate Yatzy, also known as just Yatzy, is a timed competitive dice game. The player's goal is to earn more points than their opponent with dice rolls via turn-based play.
The game prompts the player to select a realistic profile image and username. It then requires them to pick an offline, online, with friends, fast lane or step-up game and a winnings level.
The player adds points to the left column on a joint scorecard by rolling dice at least three times per turn. If they're willing to use red-die currency, they can pay for more rolls.
The scorecard features an Upper section (i.e., Ones, Twos, Threes, Fours, Fives and Sixes), a Sum (?) 63 category, a Bonus category and a Lower section (i.e., 3 of a Kind, 4 of a Kind, Full House, Small Straight, Large Straight, Chance and Yatzy). The player's goals vary by section and category.
In the Upper section, the player attempts to obtain the highest score for each category by adding identical numbers. The Sum category shows the total points for the Upper section. If the player obtains 63 points, they receive a 50-point bonus.
In the first five categories of the Lower section, the player attempts to reach a specific number of the same kind, three of a kind and an identical pair, and four or five sequential numbers, respectively. For Chance, they lock in the total of any five numbers from a turn. With Yatzy, they try to repeatedly achieve the highest five-of-a-kind score.
Potential scores appear on the scorecard after each roll. The player improves their chances of achieving specific outcomes by selecting the dice they want to keep and rolling the remaining ones. When they see a score they like, they select it to lock it in place.
