Top Shootout: The Saloon is a quick-draw, singleplayer shooter with an Old West theme. Bad guys are holding a hostage against her will in a saloon in the desert. A player's only objective is to kill as many of these men as possible as quickly as possible to protect the innocent. The men pop up into view from behind the Saloon sign and roof edge and when the closed wooden shutters on the windows suddenly swing open. They can also appear when the double swinging doors at the front of the saloon open.
The player needs to draw, shoot and reload quickly to prevent an increasing number of these men from shooting back with deadly accuracy. They also need to watch out for the hostage. The game makes it easy to determine her identity because the character shakes her hands and head to indicate that the player shouldn't shoot. If the player accidentally shoots her, they lose one of their lives.
Top Shootout: The Saloon gives the player three lives. They receive a score multiplier when they shoot quickly. They also receive access to extra lives, bullets to increase the length of time between reloads and silver and gold bars that increase their score. That said, if they select any extras, they add precious seconds to their time to shoot back at the bad guys, which means that they might receive a reward but lose a life.
