Thread Match is a sorting game in the same subcategory as hardware-sorting games. Across 100 levels, the player creates stunning embroidered pictures by sorting mini spools of colored thread attached to layered shapes on a gradient tan backdrop. When they remove every mini spool, they complete a piece of artwork and unlock the next level.
The player receives a blank fabric canvas in the upper-center area. They don't receive a preview of the finished art. The most common subjects are animals, clothes, food, furniture, plants and structures.
All the mini spools and shapes appear in the center of the screen. Above this area, the game provides a horizontal white spool with five empty sections and three horizontal empty colored spools.
When the player selects a mini spool, the game automatically transfers the thread to the white spool for temporary storage or a color-matched large spool. After a colored spool has no more space, it transfers the thread to the canvas and performs the sewing action. The layered shapes eventually fall off the bottom of the screen.
Thread Match offers the player a single booster. The player can use it up to 10 times to prompt the game to transfer the equivalent of a single large spool of thread from mini spools to the canvas. If they run out of access, they must watch advertisements to continue using this tool.
