Tangram Puzzle is a tiling puzzle in the dissection subcategory. It's often found in the block-puzzle category as well. The player must recreate specific objects with seven flat polygons known as tans. A set of tans includes a square, a parallelogram and triangles. The online version of the game is often credited as originating in China.
On each level, the player receives a black silhouette of an object. They must slide the tans into positions on a grid to cover the silhouette without allowing any of the pieces to overlap each other. In most scenarios, they must rotate a piece before they can place it. After placement, the game transforms the piece by making the color brighter or more solid without the grid showing through.
Tangram Puzzle requires the player to have an excellent imagination and spatial awareness. They must be able to visualize how all the pieces can come together to recreate the object. With some levels, they must also complete a puzzle before an upper-right timer runs out of time. That said, they can make mistakes and rearrange tans without penalty. The pieces don't lock into position.
The player can also use a lower-right magnifier button to reveal the correct position for a specific shape with a gray shadow covering part of the black silhouette. They must spend 50 coins per hint. They win coins at the end of each level.
