Snowball.io is a multiplayer, battle-arena game that features death matches on disappearing ice floes. Tbe player, via a toy avatar, drives around on snow-covered ice. Their primary objective is to knock everyone else off the floes by rolling giant snowballs and driving into other toys.
Over time, the player earns opportunities to upgrade their initial toy by completing achievements, such as playing seven consecutive days, winning a tournament, winning first place a certain number of times and reaching different ranks (silver, gold, expert and mythic). Skins include multiple types of snow plows, wind-up-style robots, a Santa on a sleigh, a giant seal and a UFO. The player can also unlock a special, hidden ninja.
Snowball.io warns the player before a piece of an ice floe is about to sink below the waves by making it flash light red. That said, the player can fail a round by simply driving accidentally off the side of a stable piece of ice. To win, they need to use various tactics and tools, including a free spin wheel that increases experience and provides LifeSavers. A LifeSaver adds a claw to the arena. If the player's toy is knocked or falls into the water, the claw saves it.
The player can play standard arena matches and Challenge tournaments. If they win any event, their avatar becomes a giant and receives a golden crown and confetti. If they're bumped from a tournament, they can't play that area again for 11 hours.
