Slice It Up is a casual skill game in the slicing subcategory. It tasks the player with cutting objects as perfectly as possible. The player tries to earn three stars per level and unlock more than 100 levels.
With each turn, the game displays an object floating in front of a nondescript background. For example, it might present the player with a pile of books, a blue diamond, a ring-style doughnut, or even a lattice-topped pie.
The player must cut the object half with precision. They only earn all three stars at the end of the level when they perform a nearly perfect 50/50 cut, as displayed on a color-coded bar after they complete the action. If they make a 60/40 cut, for example, they only receive one star.
Slice It Up requires the player to have excellent hand-eye coordination. That said, it also gives the player a dashed guideline to help them make aligned, straight cuts. Additionally, it often provides them with clues, such as elements on an object that seem to align perfectly to cut the object in half. For example, a flagpole atop a castle might align with the center of double entry doors at the castle's base.
If the player doesn't initially direct the guideline into an optimal position, they can drag it away from the object and then release it to try from a different position. They can also reload a level after they make the cut. If they experience too much difficulty, they can even skip a level entirely by watching an advertisement.
