Slap King is a fighting game that uses slapping as the main method of combat. It challenges a player to win competitive slapping matches while standing on a stone circle in a rainy, rural farm environment. The player's only goal is to win each match and gold coins etched with stars.
The player's avatar is a young man wearing a goatee, black sunglasses, a red ball cap, a red shirt, white shorts, knee pads and a backpack. The game places the youth on one side of a rickety, wooden table across from an opponent from the crowd that surrounds the raised circle. A red, down-pointing arrow swings back and forth across a multicolored gauge above the competitor's heads.
The game's mechanics adds a component of luck to each match. The player must interact with the screen at just the right moment (i.e. when the arrow swings to the central green position) to prompt their avatar to perform at his best. If it swings to the red bars on the ends of the gauge, the avatar performs badly.
Slap King offers up a variety of avatar moves for each slap. Weak slaps involve little avatar arm movement. More powerful slaps include wider arm movement, jumps into the air with a downward strike or a backward flip and slap.
