Screw Pin is a sorting game in the hardware-sorting subcategory. Across 100 levels, the player removes colored screws from wall plates of different colors, shapes and sizes and stores the pieces in color-matched containers.
The plates have both solid and semi-transparent geometric and object forms. Common shapes include circles, ovals, rectangles, rings, squares, triangles, bones, crowns, droplets, hearts, flowers and trees. The storage containers slide onto the screen from the top-left area to the center above the wall plates.
When the player selects a screw on one of these shapes, the hardware auto-transfers to the current container positioned in the top-center area unless it isn't the same color. The game provides five holes between the two zones that allow the player to temporarily store non-matching screws holding up plates that block access to matching ones. The player can fill the five holes without penalty, provided that the next screw they select auto-transfers to the current color-matched storage container.
Screw Pin increases the complexity of the number of wall plates and screws and the patterns with each new unlocked level. It also makes the panel colors blend with the screw colors more often and alters the transparency effect of some plates. As a result, the player might have more difficulty recognizing if a specific screw is uncovered and available.
