Screw Jam! is a sorting game with a hardware theme. It features elements from popular match-3, tile-matching and similar games. It's most similar to the Screw It! sorting game. Across 50 levels, the player's goal is to fill hardware boxes with color-matched screws attached to colorful, semi-transparent, white-edge glass, plastic and other pieces hanging on a gray wall.
The game uses a wide range of pieces in a variety of shapes and sizes that include round- and square-cornered geometric forms and shapes that look like specific objects, such as clouds, flowers, hearts and stars. The player must transfer the screws that hold these pieces in place to the color-matched boxes or five temporary storage holes.
Screw Jam! offers several challenging situations. The player must remove the screws in a specific order or risk running out of holes. Some pieces rotate or fall into positions that cover screw heads.
The player must sometimes match the internal drive or slot shape on the head of a screw with a specific hole in a hardware box. For example, some screws have cavities in special shapes like squares, stars and triangles. If the player runs out of holes, they can start a level over by using the reload button in the upper-right corner.
