Screw It! is a hardware sorting game with match-3 and tile-matching elements. The player must remove color-coded screws attached to glass pieces cut in a wide range of shapes and sizes that hang on a wall. Their goal is to transfer the screws to matching toolboxes at the top center of the screen.
The player selects a screw to remove it from a hole in the wall. The game then transfers it to either an open hole in a color-matched toolbox or into one of five open holes below the toolbox. The player continues this process to fill the toolbox and move on to the other toolboxes for the level. For example, they might need to transfer three green screws to a green toolbox and two gray ones to a gray one.
Screw it! also offers booster play. The game unlocks boosters at levels 6, 12, and 20. For example, the player can unlock a booster that allows them to create a sixth open hole. They can also use a hammer to break a glass piece to uncover hidden screws. After they use a free booster, they must watch an advertising video to retain access.
The levels become increasingly difficult over time because the game adds more pieces and hides screws. The player must determine the right order to remove the screws without using all the available open holes. If they fill every hole, even if they can still make moves, they fail the level and must start again.
