Save Rainbow Friend is a drawing-and-skill game that features protection and rescue elements similar to Protect My Dog, Save the Doge, Save The Sheep and Save My Pets. Across 50 levels, the player must protect one or more friend characters from the Roblox game Rainbow Friends. When they succeed, they receive coins and stars.
Against a backdrop that features graph paper, the game starts with the head of the crowned monster named Blue and one or more objects, obstacles or traps. Common threats include angry bees, deep water, pointed spikes, rolling boulders and rotating serrated blades. The player must draw one continuous black line to form a barrier around Blue. On some levels, they incorporate nearby objects like floating landmasses or brick or soil walls into their plan of defense.
After the player stops drawing, the game activates an upper-left timer on an alarm clock icon. Blue must survive 10 seconds. If the character dies, the player restarts the same level without a penalty.
Save Rainbow Friend rewards up to three stars per level based on how long the player takes to draw a line and the countdown time. If the player doesn't earn all three, they can use a restart option to try again.
