Royal Mahjong Castle Build is a tile-matching game that features match-3 and crafting elements. A king needs help building a castle and other structures on a parcel of land. The player can only acquire the resources needed to perform the builds by removing layers of tiles across hundreds of levels.
The tiles feature icons commonly associated with castles and royal life, such as anvils, books, crowns, helmets, horseshoes, jewelry, potions, scepters, shields, torches and wizards' hats. On any level, the game displays the tiles in one or more layers with seven empty trays below the tile pattern. It unlocks and displays boosters below the trays over time. For example, the player can undo a move, auto-collect matching tiles, and shuffle all remaining tiles.
The player can remove any uncovered tile, no matter its position. That said, they can only permanently remove three identical tiles at a time. They must create each match-3 set with the trays. If they fill all seven trays without making a set, they must replay the level.
When the player clears a level, they receive stars, building materials and coins. They can also sometimes open treasure chests that contain boosters and unlock a store that offers them opportunities to acquire coins and diamonds.
Royal Mahjong Castle Build prompts the player eventually to build structures. The player uses a button marked with a hammer to transfer materials like wood logs to the landscape. They can use a lower-right button marked with a key to see the design of the structure and the percentage of the build at any given time.
