Raccoon Retail is a career and management game that semi-realistically simulates tasks performed by janitors and managers at retail stores. The player must help a raccoon on a floor scrubber clean up spills caused by customers at a grocery store. They direct the raccoon to pick up and throw away fallen products and suck up liquid messes. As the game progresses, they also help with decorating the store.
The player starts by directing the raccoon and scrubber through an aisle. The scrubber automatically cleans as it passes through a section. The player must steer the scrubber forward and backward through the area more than once to pick up everything. The game increases the difficulty of this task in a variety of ways. For example, it allows liquids like laundry detergent and wine to seep under display shelving units into a nearby aisle. Some items, like live crabs, move around on the floor.
As the player cleans the floors, they earn points they can trade for money by throwing away items in a dumpster in the corner of the store. That said, they lose points if they drive into a customer or a display case.
Raccoon Retails provides the player with purchasable upgrades that make it easier for them to perform tasks. They can add new products to the shelves that pay out more after cleanup. They can increase capacity and speed, direct customers to stop approaching them, set up measures to reduce the number of products that fall from shelves, and even make spills less slippery. They can also repeatedly level up the store decorations.
It's important to note that the camera perspective and scrubber controls automatically change at times to make gameplay difficult.
