Queen of Mahjong is a connect-style matching game. The player matches identical objects in pairs to clear two-tone tan checkerboards from level to level across two modes and earn as many stars as possible.
The game starts with a classic mode and theme- and level-specific objects. For example, it initially offers a Christmas and winter holiday theme with related objects, such as adorable reindeer, candy canes, decorated trees, gift boxes, gingerbread men, red hats, blue and white snowflakes, star ornaments, ugly sweaters, winter scarves and wrapped candies. With the same theme in different levels, it also offers unrelated objects, such as beverages, donuts, eggs, fries, fruit bowls, ham legs, hamburgers and salmon steaks.�
To unlock other themes, the player must select a landscape picture icon on the lower-left side of the playfield and view an advertising video. To experience extra gameplay elements in a special locked Queen Mode, they must complete seven classic levels.
Queen of Mahjong provides several fun challenges. For example, it sometimes shifts remaining objects on the board into new positions mid-play. The player must also match items as far apart as possible to earn the most stars.
The player achieves this task by starting along the edges and then pairing some adjacent objects to create wide gaps across the center of the board. That said, connect-style mechanics prevent them from selecting items that connect by more than three lines or two right angles.
Of course, as with most games in this category, it also provides several power-ups, including magnifying glass, magic stick and double arrow tools. With the magnifier, it reveals a pair of objects. With the double arrows, it shuffles the remaining items to reveal new match opportunities. To discover the magic stick's power, the player must view a video.�
