Pyramid Mahjong is a tile-matching game that combines classic Mahjong with themed Ancient Egyptian fantasy elements. The player's objective is to clear away one or more stacks of tiles displayed in a pyramid pattern layout against different backdrops.
The player can only remove highlighted free tiles (i.e., uncovered with at least a right or left open side) in matching pairs or by flower or season. The game uses cat heads to represent the Mahjong flowers category and pieces of jewelry to represent the seasons. The other tiles feature pictures of characters from hieroglyphics and objects that would have been commonly found in Ancient Egypt, such as ankhs, oil jars, scarabs, staffs and water jugs.
Pyramid Mahjong gameplay isn't overly complex. In the upper-left area, the game provides the player with the number of pairs collected so far, the number of available pairs still available, star points earned, and a countdown timer. When the player selects a tile, a gold band appears around it. All unusable tiles remain in shadows until the player removes free tiles.
The game is the same as other Mahjong games except it doesn't offer hints or a shuffle option. Instead, the player loses and must restart. The game allows them to submit their name and score. The player can review their rank on different leaderboards via the High Scores button on the main screen.
