Pixel Path is a casual side-scrolling racing game set in a world made of pixelated objects. The player directs a black pixelated avatar to walk, run and jump its way to an exit door at the end of each of the game's 49 main levels and one mystery (?) level in untimed or timed modes.
If the player fails to direct the character to perform the best move for each part of a run with perfect timing, the avatar dies and breaks apart into black pixels. They also can't choose any level to play from the start. They must begin with the first one and win to unlock the next one, and so on. That said, they can view a video to skip a difficult level at any time.
Pixel Path features many arcade-style challenges, such as the ground collapsing as the player directs the character across it. When this happens, the character might drop into a column-like chasm. The player saves their avatar by anticipating sudden threats and making the figure move quickly into the best position to prevent death.
One way the player does this is by listening for a warning sound issued by the game right before certain threats appear onscreen. Yet, the game doesn't always provide this sound. Additionally, the game often moves threats into new positions that offset the player's efforts, as seen with spike sets that slide from side to side.
