Patterns is a tile-matching, logic-puzzle game that offers block world crafting and pattern-copying gameplay. A hedgehog witch named Ellie needs the player's help to recreate patterns using natural elements and objects.
The starter mode for this game, Classic Mode, offers 50 levels of crafting mechanics to place elemental block-style tiles on grids. After level 10, the player can also play 20 levels of Stretch Mode, which allows them to use stretch magic to clone a single block and distribute it across a grid.
Each grid features spaces that contain one or more element blocks (i.e., dirt, grass, clouds or air). The player uses icons on the right side of the screen to match a pattern Ellie presents to them on the left side. They can only use magic to place the blocks as long as they have enough energy in the upper-left area. That said, if they run out of moves, they can reload the level using the semicircular reload button in the lower-right area.
Patterns requires the player to think spatially and strategically. For example, the player can't place grass on a grid space if the space displays the air element. They must first place a cloud block tile. If they want dirt, then they must place a grass block and then use the fire icon to burn away the greenery. If they need to divide a section of grass with dirt, then they burn away all the grass first and then install spaced-out grass blocks.
The player can update Ellie's appearance by using a face button in the upper-left area and viewing advertisements. They can also just complete levels and accept offered updates.
