Papa's Sushiria is a semi-realistic simulation game. A player works in a position that requires that they take orders, prepare and serve food, accept payments and update a restaurant's interior. Papa Louie invited the player's avatar (Matt, Clover or a custom character) to a pre-opening tour of his new sushi bar. The character accidentally knocks over and smashes the maneki-neko or lucky beckoning cat at the front of the structure. When Papa Louie's opening day doesn't go well, he asks the character to work at the restaurant to restore his luck and bring in customers.
As with other Papa's games, the player starts out as a newbie. Every time they take orders or serve food (sushi and bubble tea) at the counter or tables, they receive reviews from customers based on the time it took and how closely they matched the order. For example, they receive bad reviews if they top the rice with ingredients unevenly or cut the sushi into pieces of different lengths. If they perform well, they receive a high tip and tickets that they can use in Foodini's mini games to win new clothes and decorations. When they finish the day, they receive new ingredients, customers and possibly a promotion based on their overall performance. Foodini also helps them set up a parade with a float for the restaurant. Over time, the parade attractions expand based on their performance.
