Monster Truck Sky Racing is a racing game that features 12 unique tracks suspended in the sky between floating islands and intersecting with waterfalls. The player's goal is to use a monster truck to win each race in one of the top three positions to earn points and cash and unlock the next available track.
The player competes against seven racers controlled entirely by the game's AI. They receive access to two free monster trucks before the first race. They select the one that can provide them with the best speed, acceleration, brake power and tire traction. Once they start winning races and save at least $5,000, they can upgrade their current vehicles or select one of eight additional ones. They can alter a vehicle's exterior appearance by watching advertisements.
Monster Truck Sky Racing provides plenty of tools to help the player earn the most points and cash. The player receives $500 for third place, $1,500 for second place, and $5,000 for first place. They can double any of these amounts by watching an ad.
The player can drive their truck sideways on walls and use nitrous oxide to speed past other racers. They can monitor their position in a race using a tracker at the top-left corner of the screen. If their vehicle becomes stuck on a wall or flipped upside down, they can reset its position to continue the race. They also receive extra points for performing tasks, such as destroying objects on the track, crashing into other vehicles, and showing off their drifting talents.
