Money Rush is a casual runner game in which the player directs coins, rolled wads of bills, luxury rings, gold crowns and other round items like lemon slices and donuts along an obstacle course into a cash conversion machine. Their primary goal is to collect as much money as possible so that they can remodel buildings and other attractions, including a lemonade stand, donut shop, food truck, coffee shop and pizzaria, in an entertainment park called Moneyland on the boardwalk near the ocean. If they succeed, they earn a passive income from their enterprises.
During gameplay, the player must use hand-eye coordination and mathematical skills to collect the most money. They start by rolling their valuable starter items through similar objects on the course. They increase their growing funds by maneuvering their starter money through stationary and sliding blue gates that feature multiplier amounts, extra cash and interest. The player can also earn coins by collecting keys and unlocking prize chests.
Money Rush attempts to disrupt the player's plans. It blocks the course with red gates that decrease funds by subtracting specific amounts from the player's collected money or dividing it by a percentage. The player must roll through a track-wide, red gate that forces them to pay taxes. The game features daytime and nighttime boardwalk themes, which can impact visibility. It also challenges the player with hills that make it difficult to see gate colors and yellow warning booster gates labeled with question marks (???) that can have a positive or negative impact on savings.
