Merge Squares is a merge game that features 2048 and match-3 play. On grids of different sizes, the player merges round-cornered numbered square tiles from level to level.
The game features several types of challenges displayed to the right of a trophy above the grid. To complete a task, the player must merge at least three identical square tiles to create a higher-numbered tile (i.e., three 2 squares to create a 4 square or three 8 squares to create a 16 square). Their goals include evolving the squares to create a specific numbered one or earn a specific score. From time to time, they receive a red joker tile to use as a wild card in place of any numbered square.
The player must take care when placing square tiles on a grid. During a merge, all squares come together to create a higher-numbered one in the last-used space. If the player places a square between a matching one on one side and two adjacent ones on the other side, all four merge together. Additionally, if the player places any third square in a spot that isn't next to a matching or higher-numbered one, they might create the new square in an undesired spot. The game also blocks some spaces with walls.�
That said, the player eventually receives boosters, known in-game as clues, that help. For example, they receive a swap booster that allows the swap of any two tiles and a bomb booster that explodes walls. In addition, the game sometimes evolves one or more tiles next to a newly created one.
Merge Squares offers coin and gift rewards. To increase their winnings or open some gifts, the player must watch ads. With their coins, they can eventually use the store button to upgrade the tile to different skin options, such as copper and rainbow frames and swirl and bubble patterns.
