Merge Faces is an endless brain test and step-up merge game. On a five-column pattern, the player attempts to merge clusters of three or more blocks that feature matching emoji faces and numbers to create next-highest-number blocks and earn the highest score possible.
The player can only make clusters with adjacent side-by-side and stacked matching blocks. They must select individual ones to incrementally change the emoji faces and increase or decrease the numbers. The game auto-merges all connected blocks and transforms the cluster into a new block at the last selection point. Clusters also form when off-screen blocks drop into gaps from above.
For example, if the player selects a 5 block once, they perform a +1 move that changes the face and increases the block's number by 1 to create a 6 block. If the selection makes a cluster of three or more adjacent 6 blocks, then all connected matching ones auto-merge left, right, up, and down toward the selection point and transform to create a 7 block.
Merge Faces gives the player five penalty passes presented as a horizontal line of rainbow-colored dash marks below the score. The player uses one pass every time they fail to make a cluster. When their actions create a new block, the game resets one penalty dash mark.
To help prevent a total loss, the game provides three useful tools below the emoji faces. The player can use their coin winnings or ad views to buy access to a down arrow that subtracts 1 from a block's number, an up arrow that adds 2, or a blue mallet that breaks and removes one entirely. The cost of access increases over time.
