Math Gardens is a number puzzle and renovation game. A city girl named Emily needs the player's help with cleaning and renovating a rooftop to create an urban garden. The player performs each renovation after they earn enough stars by solving math equations.
During math play, the player receives two or more overlapping math equations in a layout that's similar to the columns and rows in a crossword puzzle. The game displays numbered tiles below the equation area. The player must place these tiles in correct positions to complete the equations. After they finish a level, they receive a star.
Math Gardens eventually directs the player to select a flowerpot button in the lower-left corner on the city screen and purchase a renovation service with one or more stars. It then performs automated renovation actions, such as clearing away debris and standing water from the rooftop, planting vines and other greenery and flowers, and constructing a garden path.
If the player becomes stuck while trying to solve equations, they can use gemstones they win at the end of each level to pay for helpful tools. The magnifier button reveals a single number. The bullseye button reveals an entire equation.
Every day, the game also prompts the player to achieve various goals, as shown when the player selects a golden flower-shaped seal button above the flowerpot. When they complete all goals for a day, they receive treasure chest rewards.
The player can also pursue monthly missions. They select a checklist button in the upper-left corner and then play daily math equation games to earn a monthly reward.
