Mahjongia is a tile-matching game that has Mahjong elements. It offers five modes (Daily, Beginner, Normal, Hard and Super Hard) and dozens of levels per mode. The player must clear each level of tiles to earn enough seashells to unlock new modes and levels.
Every level features a pattern of layered tiles floating in front of a backdrop. The game offers a high degree of customization without any in-game required payment. The player can select sets that display traditional Chinese Mahjong characters and images, desserts and meals, freshwater and saltwater life, flowers and runes. The background options include baize or wallpaper patterns and outdoor scenes.
Once the player completes their customizations, they play by simply seeking and selecting uncovered matching pairs of tiles. Mahjongia provides them with unlimited shuffles, in the form of a double arrow button, to reveal hidden tiles. It also provides them with limited access to a lightbulb hint button. If they use a hint, the game makes a pair of tiles pulse with green highlighting. When they run out of hints, it makes them view ad videos to earn more.
In the Daily mode, the player also attempts to earn bronze, silver and gold trophies each month by completing a daily puzzle. They receive other rewards as well for completing different tasks, such as a gift on the home screen after they wait a couple of hours and a gift for completing five levels.
