Mahjong Unlimited is a luxurious tile-matching game modeled after Chinese Mahjong. The player clears patterns from tabletops across Relax, Easy, Normal and Hard difficulty levels. With some levels, their goals are to earn a time bonus and the highest possible score so they can rank among the best players ever. They also attempt to earn achievement medals.
Once a player selects a difficulty level, the game stacks the tiles in a pattern on the tabletop. More difficult levels feature a higher number of small tiles layered in complex patterns.
At this point in the game, the player can customize the tabletop and tiles using the gear icon in the upper-right corner. They can change the table color to one of six options and the tiles to one of three options. They can also change the images depicted on the tiles based on a theme.
The player can stick with the classic Chinese icons or use standard playing card or barnyard, domesticated and wild animal icons. Additionally, they can change the angle of the tiles and even make each one have a flat or two-dimensional appearance.
The rules of Mahjong Unlimited match other similar games. The player selects pairs of identical tiles to clear the tabletop. Tiles that represent flowers and seasons count as identical even when the icons on the tiles differ. The player can use the shuffle and hint icons in the lower-right area to help them finish faster.
If the player wants to review the best players, they use the lower-right corner icon on the home screen. They can review their achievement medals by using the lower-left icon on the same screen.
