Mahjong Triple Dimensions is a three-dimensional, match-3 matching game similar to the Chinese Mahjong tile-matching one. The player removes stacked cubes, known in-game as stones, from playfields in matching sets of three. Across 40 levels, they perform this task via a timed or untimed mode.
The player receives a stacked pattern of stones floating at the center of each field. They can rotate the pattern to see the positions of different stones by using arrow buttons to the lower left and lower right of the stack. The player selects a stone to start the process of selecting a set. Selectable stones have at least two free sides. The game displays the selected stone in the upper-left area. After the player selects a set, all stones disappear from the stack.
Mahjong Triple Dimensions penalizes the player if they use the lower-right area hint button marked with a question mark. Any time they reveal a set of matching stones, the game decreases their score. If they use the hint button too often, they can generate a negative score. Even if they reload a level, their negative score remains until they earn enough points to offset it.
