Mahjong Solitaire is a classic version of online Mahjong. As the name makes clear with the solitaire description, it's meant to be played alone.
The player must clear a green playfield of 144 tiles layered in a pattern before they run out of moves or a 10-minute timer runs out time. This version of the game provides them with two ways to play faster. They can review the number of open matches available displayed at the top left corner of the field. They can also use a Hint button at the bottom right corner. The Hint button displays a hint as a glowing border around a pair of tiles. Unlike other versions of the game, the player can enjoy unlimited hints.
The player clears the field by removing matched pairs of uncovered tiles that have at least one left or right side unconnected to other tiles. The game features numbered stones, characters and bamboo stalks. It also has bonus tiles, including winds, flowers and seasons. There are birds as well that represent the first tile in the set of bamboo stalks.
Except for flowers and seasons, all pairs of matched tiles must look identical. For example, the player might select two tiles with three stones or two tiles with matching east wind symbols. With flowers and seasons, they must select two of the same type. For example, they might select the summer and autumn tiles to make a match.
