Mahjong Daddy is a tile-matching game that offers more than 70 patterns. Against a stylized mountainous Chinese landscape backdrop, the player attempts to remove stacks of layered, vibrantly colored wooden Mahjong tiles quickly to earn the best possible time.
The game doesn't lock any pattern. As a result, the player can select anything, including patterns shaped like the side view of a cat, a moth with its wings outspread, and a giant letter X in a font style. Once the player selects a pattern, the game transports them to the mountain scene.
Like many Mahjong games, Mahjong Daddy only allows the removal of identical tiles or plant or seasonal category tiles in pairs. With the latter, the game displays almost all plants with a text descriptor above the plant icon (i.e., Bamboo, Mum and Orchid). For seasons, the player can select any tree that displays a change based on the season, such as lush green treetops in summer and leafless branches in winter.
The player doesn't receive access to any backdrop or tile customization options. They also don't receive a hint tool. If they run out of moves, the game does provide a free shuffle option.
