Icing on the Cake Online is a career and hobby simulator that teaches a player the basics of decorating a cake with buttercream icing. Across levels, the player's only goals are to make their cakes match each example as quickly as possible and earn gold stars.
The play area displays the example of how the cake should look in a pane near the upper-right corner. The player's cake spins counterclockwise on a circular stand at the center of the screen. The player must use the displayed paint swatches to select icing options. After selecting a color, they receive a pastry or piping bag with a bubble at the end that shows where the icing comes out.�
For accuracy, they use the dot and white dashed lines on the cake to guide their hand. A timer at the top-right corner helps them with strength and the recovery time needed for accuracy. After applying each colored icing to the correct areas of the cake, the player uses a cake scraper or spatula to smooth the surfaces.
The player must always apply correct icing colors to specific areas and follow the dashed line patterns perfectly. The game also tilts the cake stand and bag from time to time without warning, which can make applying the icing more difficult. Difficulty increases level by level with more complex colors and design demands.�
Icing on the Cake Online tracks the player's progress with a green, top-center progress bar. When the player finishes, it shows the original and player's cakes side by side and displays the percentage of similarity, the time for completion, and the world average time.
