Home Design: Match 3 is a match and renovation puzzle game similar to House Design: Match 3. The player completes match-3 tasks on boards to earn stars that help them buy items to renovate different areas of a home. The current areas include a veranda, a bedroom, a girl's bedroom, an attic, a living room and a country kitchen.
The game presents the player with everyday household items and desserts on each board. It also displays tasks to the left of a board, such as collecting specific items or breaking chocolate-covered crackers under items. The player must align one item with two or more other items in a column, row or four-item square to complete a match.
When the player aligns four or more items, they create special ones that include rockets that remove items from entire columns and rows and rockets that perform random strikes. They sometimes also receive a rainbow flying saucer that allows them to remove all items of the same type. Additionally, the game provides them with coin winnings that they can use to buy special hammer boosters.
Home Design: Match 3 returns the player to the renovation screen after every board game. The player then selects a renovation spot marked with a plus sign star and slides a star badge that appears into a circular area. The game then presents them with three options to customize the spot.
