Grandma Recipe: Nigiri Sushi is a cooking and dress-up game based on Japanese food and culture. A girl is hosting a dinner party and needs help preparing her grandma's nigiri sushi recipe. She also needs help picking out an outfit, creating a presentation for the food, and sharing a photograph of the results with her grandma.
The player completes tasks across six levels. They start by finding all the tools needed to complete the recipe in the girl's kitchen. With grandma's help, they then learn how to prepare and combine the ingredients. For example, they must make sticky rice balls and cut up and plate fish, sea urchin, nori and other ingredients. The player then dresses the girl in a suitable costume. They can choose a top and bottom or a dress, an apron, shoes, jewelry or decorative hair accessories. They can also use a button marked with a die and question marks to make the game give them ideas.
Lastly, the player helps decorate the nigiri sushi after it's displayed on a tray with chopsticks and condiments in small bowls. They can decorate the tray, change the color of the chopsticks, and even change the tray to a rectangular plate or other presentation option. When finished, they take a picture of the girl and the sushi platter.
Grandma Recipe: Nigiri Sushi also features achievements. The player receives rewards for finding all the tools, slicing the fish perfectly, completing the lesson, searing eel until it browns, making perfect rice balls, cutting nori, decorating the sushi, trying on costumes, adding emojis to pictures, and finishing the entire game.
