Getting Over It is a climbing platformer with physics and speed-run elements. A player helps a cat in a terracotta flower pot named Scratch Cat maneuver over various objects, including colorful advertisement and settings blocks, mountains made of various giant fruits and other foods, skyscrapers, vehicles and books. Their goal is to reach outer space where the cat can complete their journey and float off into the cosmos.
Scratch Cat only possesses a hammer to create the leverage needed to lift, drag and push their pot and jump to the sides and top of objects. The player's goal in relation to the speed-run aspect of the game is to get Scratch Cat over everything as quickly as possible. The game displays the time in seconds at the top right corner of the screen.
If Scratch Cat falls into water, for example, the entire level resets. That said, if the player can't beat their last best time, they can reset the game at any time manually.
