Funny Hair Salon, also known as Funny Hair Shop, is a career-simulation game that focuses on tasks performed by barbers, beauticians, spa owners and stylists. A balding man with dermatological problems has entered the salon and needs the player's help! The player learns about all the treatments a professional might use in a similar situation. They also learn about the basic steps a professional might complete during an appointment.
That said, the game is only semi-realistic. For example, the player must complete mini-tasks that only a dermatologist or physician might handle, such as dealing with communicable diseases. Yet, it offers enough realism to help teach younger players a bit about hair issues that commonly affect people, such as head lice, acne and balding, and some methods used to treat those problems.
The game also explores beauty spa treatments, such as hair cream baths to moisturize hair and cucumbers to treat puffy undereye areas. It concludes with the player giving the character a new hair color and a cut. The player can also give him facial hair, eyeglasses, or different eyebrows and clothes.
Funny Hair Salon features a randomizer button marked with a die labeled with question marks. The player can use it to select options. Lastly, it rewards the player when they reach certain goals, such as treating medical issues and trying all hair models and clothes.
